As we're heading back north tomorrow and spend the actual Easter day there, we had a pretend Easter lunch today with my parents and my grand-mother. The desserts, which I didn't photograph, ranged from a glossy almond pie to a chocolate cake with chocolate filling, but my favourite was my mother's chocolate mousse. The chocolate didn't completely melt, leaving it with tiny tiny bits of crunchy chocolate, which were a pleasant surprise every time I had a spoon. The main course was Portuguese Stew. We used boiled beef and pork and smoked sausages (chouriço, farinheira and morcela) and served it with boiled potatoes, carrots and cabbage and rice boiled in the meat broth. Definitely one of my favourite Portuguese recipes and always trending in my kitchen.

(I lost track of the times I panicked when I put the watch on my arm before going to work... and then realised I had forgotten to change the time.)

Como vamos regressar ao norte amanhã e passar a Páscoa lá, tivemos um almoço de Páscoa a fingir com os meus pais e a minha avó hoje. As sobremesas, que não fotografei, foram desde uma tarte de amêndoa reluzente a um bolo de chocolate com recheio de chocolate, mas a minha preferida foi a mousse de chocolate da minha mãe. O chocolate não derreteu completamente, e a mousse acabou por ficar com uns pedacinhos de chocolate crocante, que se transformaram numa bela surpresa de cada vez que eu comia uma colher. O prato principal foi Cozido à Portuguesa. Usámos carne de vaca e de porco cozida e enchidos (chouriço, farinheira e morcela) e servimos com batata, cenoura e couve cozida, e arroz cozido no caldo da carne. É definitivamente uma das minhas receitas portuguesas preferidas e está sempre na moda na minha cozinha.
Para aqueles que celebram a Páscoa, tenham uma excelente Páscoa! Para aqueles que não a celebrarem, tenham um grande fim de semana. E para quem estiver na Europa, não se esqueça de avançar o relógio uma hora! (Perdi a conta à quantidade de vezes que entrei em pânico quando coloquei o relógio no braço antes de ir trabalhar... e me apercebi que me tinha esquecido de mudar a hora.)

DeleteI hate it when the time changes! Particularly the spring change - it seems to take me weeks to adjust to it. In the fall? I adjust in under a minute! Anyway, wonderful looking dish. I haven't tried Portuguese stew - something I need to. Great post, and I hope you're having a Happy Easter.

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of versions to it: many people add chicken, for instance - which I don't really like - it's too much of a mix of meat, even for me. :P Have a great week!

ReplyDeleteMany of them are quite "national", but when you travel to some regions and taste the local produce... delight times 1 million. Smoked sausages from Vinhais, "alheira" from Mirandela, "morcela de arroz (rice morcela)" from Leiria... Diced and on bread; diced and used in cooking, to spice the food (2 or 3 dice in kale soup: yum!); you name it!
DeleteLook for "traditional Portuguese smoked sausage", or better in Portuguese: "enchidos portugueses tradicionais" and be prepared to enter a mouth-watering state. ;)
