July Foodie Penpals Reveal

This post was happily delayed. My REALLY LUCKY July Foodie Penpals Steph and Luke were going to the USA, so they were extremely kind to ask me whether I preferred to get my parcel early - that is to say before they went to the USA - or if I'd rather wait a bit more and get some goodies from the other side of the Atlantic.

hmmm...

As soon as I opened the parcel and started taking everything out, my eyes smiled so much even my parents (who had gone for a 3-day visit) laughed. This is one inspiring and fun parcel!

Steph and Luke sent:
- a twinkie - or USA's sweet culture in a wrapper. It's a challenge to be writing these words and having it looking at me on the table. Count to 4 after you read this post. It's about the same time it will take me to open the wrapper and taste the twinkie, as soon as I publish this.

- Reese's peanut butter cups. It's an American candy made of chocolate-coated peanut butter. According to Steph and Luke, they're great crumbled on top of ice cream, and I can't wait to try it that way, too.

- 2 Vermont Smoke and Cure sticks - 1 beef with BBQ seasonings and 1 beef and pork with cracked pepper. Being from a country where smoked and cured meats are taken really seriously, I'm curious about their taste.

- Parmesan cheese flavoured The Hampton Popcorn. Besides being curious about how it tastes (popcorn and parmesan? Double win!), I find the box so beautiful! It makes such a nice gift.

- Hormel's Real bacon bits. To add to a salad, to a meat dish, to pasta. *Sigh*

- Edmond Fallot's Moutarde au Piment d'Espelette - a kind of chilli pepper grown in the Basque country, making it a kind of symbol of the region. Another one I'm really curious to try and mix in Portuguese flavours.

- finally, Cape Herb & Spice Texan Steakhouse rub shaker tin. Portuguese food with real American flavour? I can't wait to try it.

This was not an easy task, and I loved to see what they selected as interesting and/or representative. And now comes the best part after the wait: TRYING EVERYTHING.

While ENJOYING THE PHOTOS, I'd like you to consider: if you went to the USA for a visit (or to Europe if you are from the USA), what would you bring back with you?

A Steph e o Luke enviaram:
